William Lloyd Scarlett

February 8, 1925 — June 28, 2015

William Lloyd Scarlett, 90, of Southview Road, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House following a brief illness. Mr. Scarlett was deeply loved by his family who treasure the many years of loving him, being loved by him, listening to his special stories and knowing that life was best enjoyed surrounded by family and laughter. He loved God, family and country with an immense dedication. As a man with a huge heart, he gave generously and selflessly to family, friends and many charitable causes. He was most at home in the outdoors and was an avid hunter, often accompanied by his close friend Mike Burns. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2015, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 to 10:30 prior to the service. Mr. Scarlett was born February 8, 1925, in Davidson County, to Walter Scarlett and Ada Myers Scarlett. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from PPG Industries. Mr. Scarlett was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and also a member of the National Rifle Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Ann Scarlett; sister, Clara Pittman; and brothers, Lola, Allen, Thurman, Luther, and Richard Scarlett. Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years, Nancy Lopp Scarlett of the home; daughter, Donna Scarlett of Lexington; grandchildren, Jennifer Warren of Abu Dhabi, UAE and Amy Christensen and husband Dale of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Chance Pressley and Bailey Christensen; and sister, Alma Floyd of Thomasville. The family asks that any memorial gifts be directed to Wounded Warrior Project, 1990 Fordham Drive, Suite 100, Fayetteville, NC 28304 or Hinkle Hospice House, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292 in Mr. Scarlett's honor.
