William Howard Shipton

William Howard Shipton, age 80 of Swicegood Road, Linwood passed away Tuesday morning February 18, 2020 at Alston Brook Nursing Home. A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Smith Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Smith Grove Church Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. William was born in Davidson County May 11, 1939 to Walter Lee Shipton and Daisy Floyd Shipton. He was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and a retired employee of Mid State Petroleum. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Barry Shipton, and a grandson, Scott Shipton. Surviving are his wife, Jean Young Shipton of the home; son, Jeff Shipton (Gaye) of Lexington; grandchildren, Brent Shipton of Sylva, NC, Joshua Shipton (Megan) of Linwood, Jordan Leonard (Casey) of Lexington and Makayla Shipton of Linwood; sister, Mary Jane Byerly of Denton; half-brother, Leroy Shipton of Thomasville; daughter-in-law, Vickie Surratt of Linwood.
