William Ashley Thompson

August 16, 1942 — September 11, 2020

William “Bill” Ashley Thompson, Jr., 78 of Lexington, passed away on Friday, September 11, 2020 at High Point Medical Center.

Mr. Thompson will lie in state at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington from 1:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Monday, September 14 th .  The family will not be present.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 15 th at Thomasville Church of God with Rev. Alan Greene officiating.  Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the family requests that masks be worn at the service.  Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.

Bill, as he liked to be called, was born on August 16, 1942 in Rowan County to William Ashley Thompson, Sr. and Nellie Arndt Thompson.  He retired from PPG and also worked at Sink Farm Equipment.  He was a member of Thomasville Church of God.  Bill enjoyed farming and gardening and was also a master woodworker, but his main enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren who he loved very much.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Margaret Hollman Thompson, of the home; son, Benjamin ‘Ben’ Thompson (Angie) of Lexington; daughter, Amy Thompson (Richie) of Lexington; sister, Billie Carol Michael, of Lexington; 5 grandchildren, Jacob (Hannah), Kayna, Justin, Charlan (Darin), Brendan and 3 great-grandchildren, Ellison, Barrett and Maggie Ellis.

Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington is serving the Thompson family.
