William Justice Vickers, age 88, passed away Wednesday (April 20, 2011) at Hospice of the Piedmont, in High Point.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday (April 23, 2011) at Bethany United Methodist Church where he was a member, with Rev. David Talbert officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany United Methodist Cemetery, with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074. The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 am Saturday in the Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
Justice was born in McDowell County, May 2, 1922, to Thomas Lee and Kate Melton Vickers. In 1939 his family moved to Lexington and he graduated from Lexington High School. Justice served his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II for six years with tours of duty in Guam, Bougainville, Imo Jima and New Zealand. He worked most of his life in textiles at Erlanger and Dakota Mills. While working at Erlanger Mills he met his wife, of 65 years, Mira Belle Workman, who preceded him in death, as did his parents, daughter, Mira Annette Vickers Hedrick; a sister Floy Vickers; a brother, Bobby Vickers.
Surviving are daughters, Brenda V. Hedrick and husband, Randy, Marcia V. Reid and husband, Doug, all of Lexington; son in law, Ricky Hedrick of Lexington; grandchildren, Chris Reid and wife, Ashley, Caroline Dally and husband, Andy, Garrett Hedrick, Johnathan Hedrick and Cory Hedrick all of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Tanner Dally, Cora Dally, Austin Dally, Kate Hedrick, Gray Hedrick, Noah Reid, Troy Reid and Isabella Reid.
