William Smith Wright

William Smith Wright,83 of Magnolia Road, Lexington died Tuesday at his home after declining health Mr. Wright was born December 1, 1922 in Wilson County to Edward Kendall Wright and Anne Smith Wright. He received his education from Duke University and was a veteran of World War II having served as a pilot in the US Navy Air Corps. He married Jesse Hargrave Gordon of Lexington on April 21, 1945. They moved to Lexington in 1946 where Mr. Wright worked for Carolina Panel Company. He was President and manager of Davidson Veneer Company of Lexington for his business career. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Jesse Gordon “Bill” Wright of the home; a son, Dr. J. Gordon Wright and wife, Nancy of Lexington; a daughter, Kendall Wright Sharpe and husband, Steve of Lexington; four grandchildren: Amy Wright Hill and husband, Mark; Jacqueline Wright Schechter and husband, Drew; Christopher Harriss Sharpe and wife, Dr. Jessica Sharpe; and William Bynum Sharpe and wife, Jennifer; five great grandchildren; and a brother, Dr. Edward Kendall Wright, Jr. of Wilson The memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 19, 2006 at First United Methodist Church by Rev. John Ferree and Rev. Jill Alventosa-Brown. A private inurnment will be held at the Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall and other times at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 310 S. Main St, Lexington NC 27292
