Willie "Bill" Mcpherson

After a year long courageous battle with cancer, Willie “Bill” McPherson passed away Sunday, May 20, 2007. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Chuck Garner. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hillside Memorial Park, Laurinburg by Jeremy Walters. Mr. McPherson was born in Scotland County, Laurel Hill, on April 17, 1920, to Martin and Mattie Holliday McPherson. He worked as a farmer while living in Laurinburg, before moving to Lexington in 1959. While living in Lexington, he was a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church; he worked at Thomasville Furniture Industries and Commercial Carving in Thomasville. He served in the U.S. Army in 1945. He was married to Ethel Watson, his wife of 54 years, on September 2, 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife who died on June 10, 1993; two sons, Grady McPherson and Dewey McPherson; two brothers, Carson and John McPherson; and two sisters, Mary Gibson and Sally Brigman. Surviving are two daughters, Patsy Everhart and husband, Tommy, of Lexington, and Shirley Koenig and husband, Don, of Liberty; four sons, William McPherson and wife, Carolyn, of Lexington, John McPherson and wife, Linda, of Archdale, Tony McPherson and wife, Belinda, of Thomasville, and Jerome McPherson and wife, Sherry, of Trinity; one sister, Alma Brigman of Wilmington; 19 grandchildren, Pat Clemmer, Cindy Cordele, Teresa Melton, Grady McPherson, Jodie Willliams, Tammy Todd, Belinda Smith, Janna Stowe, Wendy Geiger, Staci McPherson, Shea Hartsoe, Shane McPherson, Jennifer McPherson, Anna Kennedy, Jason McPherson, Slade McPherson, Shannon Walters, Kyle McPherson and Arron McPherson; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son, Tony McPherson, 4050 Old Highway 29, Thomasville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293.
