Willie Mae Smith Garner, 90 of H.L. Palmer Road, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at Thomasville Medical Center.
The funeral will be 4:00 PM Tuesday, September 18 at Holloways Baptist Church, by Rev. Craig Barnhill, Rev. RN Hardin, Rev. Charles Dickens and Rev. Myra Ward. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Garner was born in Davidson County on June 14, 1917, to Willie G. Smith and Gertie Daniel Smith. She retired as a supervisor from the City of Lexington. She was an active member of Holloways Baptist Church as long as her health permitted and held many positions including Sunday School Teacher, Member of the Choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Women’s Missionary Union Leader and Training Union Leader. Mrs. Garner married Van Buren Garner who preceded her in death in 2004.
Surviving, are one son J. Wayne Garner of Lexington; one brother, Orin Glenn “Buddy” Smith of Lexington; three Nieces: Estelle Sizemore and husband, Harlan, of Winston Salem, Sherry Garner of Lake Norman and Dianne Markham and husband, Larry, of Columbia S.C.; four nephews: Reggie Smith and wife, Deloras, David Garner and wife, Frances, and Danny Garner, all of Lexington, and Rodney Gallimore and wife, Barbara, of Newton; a special great nephew, Scott Smith and wife, Andrea, and their children: Clay and Lily of Greenville S.C.; a special great niece, Lori Scarlett and husband, Lance, and their children: Christopher, Samuel and Eli of Ellenboro N.C.; a sister-in-law Lucille Garner of Lexington and three special Caregivers Tresia Terwilliger, Janice Everhart and Barbara Beck.
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m., Monday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home on H.L.Palmer Road, Lexington.
