Willie Ray Vawter

Following a lengthy battle with dementia and congenital heart failure, Willie Ray Vawter Jr., of Lexington, NC., passed peacefully on October 28, 2026 at the age of 89.

Willie was the son of Willie Sr. and Velna Vawter, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Vonceil, and his brother, David Vawter. He is survived by his siblings;

Maxine Mull, Sue Everhart, Kaye Parker, and Roger Vawter. He is also survived by a son, Paul Vawter and wife, Cynthia as well as a grandson and 3 great grandchildren. He was the favorite uncle of Jane Rafferty and Monica Means and had many other cherished nieces and nephews.

Willie never met a stranger and had the “gift of gab". He leaves behind a legacy of laughter, helpfulness, and kindness. He was anchored in honesty, hard work, faith and family.

Willie enjoyed camping and traveling during his retirement with his beloved wife, Vonceil. Their travels led them south to Florida for many winters, as well as the mountains. Cherry Grove. SC was a favorite for them. They also were blessed to cruise the open seas with family.

A very special thanks to Brookdale of Lexington, NC for the care, laughter, and love they consistently demonstrated for Willie. So many lamented how much they loved "Sweet Willie”. Also, special thanks to Alderwood Hospice of Davidson County for their compassion and assistance during this time.

Willie was greatly loved and touched so many lives. He will be missed but is now free to be with his beloved wife and those who have gone before him. Much chatter ahead on his next great adventure!
