Willis Hugh Walser, 81, of Center Church, Rd., Lexington died Sunday, October 27, 2013 in Forsyth Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. James Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Mr. Walser was born October 18, 1932 in Davidson County to Hugh Willis Walser and Mary Wilma York Walser. He graduated from Reeds High School and Electronic School in Winston- Salem. He was a member of Welcome Lions for over 52 years and the recipient of the Jack Stickley Award. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, was a ranking officer with Amvets Post 760 and received the Veterans service award. Willis was President of Men’s Wednesday night Business Bowling League, sponsoring the team for over 50 years and previously spent time with the Welcome Volunteer Fire Department. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Willis Keith “Coach” Walser, September 29, 2013; step-mother, Pauline Walser; and two brothers, Benny Walser, and Edward Walser.
Surviving are his wife, of 60 years, Martha Stutts Walser of the home; daughter, Shari Walser Herman of Welcome; grandson, Trey Herman of Welcome; two half-brothers, Kenneth V. Walser, Jimmy G. Walser and wife, Wanda both of Yadkin College; half-sister, Brenda Johnson and husband, Loal of Yadkin College.
