Wilma Proffitt Hollaway, 83, of Clark Road, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, due to injuries received in an automobile accident.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Grove Baptist Church, where she was a long time member, with the Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Hollaway was born March 23, 1926, in Cocke County, Tenn., to Lewis Baxter Proffitt and Bessie Bohanan Proffitt. At her church she had served as a dedicated choir member, Sunday school teacher, and was serving as treasurer of the Homemakers class, that she dearly loved. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Luther Hollaway; brothers, Ralph Proffitt, Eugene Proffitt, and Fred Proffitt; and sisters, LaVerria Spivey, and Irene Pryor.
Surviving are her son, Gary Hollaway and wife, Kathy, of Chattanooga, Tn.; daughters, Judy Hollaway Sink and husband, Gerald, of Lexington, and Janice Hollaway Johnson and husband, Kenny, of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Stacy Sink and wife, Shiloh, of Lexington, Neal Snider and wife, Natalie, of San Francisco, Ca., and Ryan Snider and fiancé, Jenna, of Raleigh; sisters, Helen Wilkerson and husband, Glyn, of Highlands, Texas; and sisters-in-law, Lucy Hall of Newport, Tn., and Helen Proffitt of Westminister, Ca.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel.
