Winifred Edgar Hamm, 81, of Coleman Drive, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Thomasville Medical Center.
The funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Mr. Hamm was born in Alamance County, on July 11, 1927, to Stephen Hamm and Cassie Newsome Hamm. He was an employee for City of Lexington Gas Department, employed at Carolane Propane and a self employed carpenter. He was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, John Hamm; and two sisters, Pauline Laney and Larrene Bost.
Surviving are his loving companion, best friend and wife of 53 years, Ruth Grant Hamm of the home; loving son, Doug Hamm and wife, Pat, of Lexington; loving daughter, Teresa Trader and husband, Harold, of Walkertown; four grandchildren, Jason Varner, Jamie Varner, Tiffney Jones, and Toni Moorefield; five great-grandchildren, Dustin Johnson, Dylon Johnson, Zachary Bullins, Carson Moorefield, and Lauren Varner; and a brother, Stephen “Walt” Hamm and wife, Flo, of Lexington.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
