Barbara Ann Leonard

September 2, 1933 — May 20, 2023

Mrs. Barbara Young Leonard, 89, of Evergreen Avenue, died Saturday, May 20 at Brookstone Retirement Center.

A graveside service will be held at 3pm Wednesday, May 31st at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Revs Bill Roth and Kirk Tutterow.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30pm Wednesday, May 31st, at Davidson Funeral Home prior to the service.

Mrs. Leonard was born September 2, 1933 in Davidson County to Robert Lee Young and Pansy Myers Young. Barbara loved all children and was a teacher at heart. For many years, she taught 3rd grade Sunday School and Bible School at First United Methodist Church. She also served on the Altar Guild and made sure her three children were dressed in their finest for church each Sunday. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority where she made lifelong friends. Each summer she would host their end-of-the-year meeting at the lakehouse, which was a treat they all looked forward to. Special memories included making Christmas cookies, shopping together, vacations the week of the 4th of July, dinners together as a family, the best hugs, participating in her grandchildren's lives by babysitting, attending their special events, and treating them with goodies and gifts. Barbara had a gift for decorating and her home was filled with flowers, art, antiques, knick-knacks, and items from the many trips she and Curtis took to Europe, Japan, and Alaska. Family meant everything to Barbara, and she dedicated her life to raising her 3 children, loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and making sure they all knew she was there to listen and support them.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Curtis Leonard of the home; her children, Linda Roth and husband, Rev. Bill Roth, of Matthews, Robert Leonard and wife, Tanya, of Lexington, Lisa Gregory and husband, Scott, of Lexington; her grandchildren, Krista Roth, Errett Roth and wife, Jordan, Jeremy Leonard and wife, Ashley, Matthew Leonard and wife, Valerie, David Leonard, and Hannah Gregory and Adam Gregory; and her great-granchildren, Harper Leonard, Emmett Leonard, Elin Leonard, and McKenna Roth, and a sister-in-law, Jeanette Regan of Culpeper Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the donor’s choice.
