Mr. John Richard Byrd, 70, of Eller Road, died Saturday, March 13 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 16 at Parklawn Memorial Park, with the Revs Dr. Harold Fletcher, Ken Harris, and T.W. Bailey officiating.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel and other times at the home.
Mr. Byrd was born June 19, 1939 in Wilkes County to Lester Bonson Byrd and Hannah Gentry Byrd. He was the former owner and operator of Byrd Landscaping and a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. His brother, Harold Byrd, and his sisters, Myrtle Sparks, and Ina Mae Haynes, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Ella Billings Byrd of the home; his sons, Anthony Byrd, and wife, Mary of Lexington, and Keith Byrd and wife, Lois, of Pleasant Garden; his daughter, Rhonda Smith, and husband, Eric, of Winston Salem; his brothers, Clyde Byrd of Thurmond, Dean Byrd, of Wilkesboro, and Lonnie Byrd of Hayes; his sisters, Betty Warren of Wilkesboro, Barbara Johnston of Roaring River, and Shelby Jean Sheets, of Hayes; his grandchildren, Danielle Byrd, John David Byrd, Clay Smith, Courtney Smith, Hunter Byrd, and Dylan Byrd; and several nieces and nephews.
