Mary Etta Lanning Parks, 90, of Lexington went home to be with the Lord, Sunday evening, November 14, 2010, at her son’s home in Climax, NC.
A funeral service will be Wednesday November 17, 2010, at 1:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel with Rev. Frankie Matthews officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington and other times at the home of her son, Edward Parks, 306 Gallimore Drive.
Mrs. Parks was born in Davidson County on December 13, 1919 to William Ollie Lanning and Sallie Etta Beck Lanning. She was a former employee of Bruce’s Bridal Shop, she was a well know seamstress in Lexington, who worked out of her own home; and a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. Her husband of 60 years, Howard Zeno Parks, died January 4, 1997. Her son, H. Wayne Parks; grandson, Paul Parks; brothers Hollis Lanning, Herman Lanning, Lloyd Lanning; and sister Pauline Swicegood also preceded her in death.
Surviving are sons, Thomas Parks and wife, Jean, of Climax, NC, and Edward Parks and wife, Pamela, of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Lewis Parks, David Parks, Chris Parks, Timothy Parks, Michael Parks, Alan Parks, Sherrie Brackett and Deborah Halase; 13 great grandchildren; and a brother, Willie Lanning and wife, Lucille, of Lexington.
