Phoebe Shirley Curry, 91, of Old US Highway 29, died Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 8, 2012, at the Chapel of First Baptist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Ray N. Howell 3rd and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son.
Mrs. Curry was born January 31, 1921, in Davidson County, to William Edgar Shirley and Octavia Greer Shirley. She was a graduate of Southmont High School and completed her education at Appalachian State Teachers College, now known as Appalachian State University. She was a teacher and librarian for Davidson County Schools and Lexington City Schools for 42 years before her retirement and following retirement she continued as a substitute teacher at Lexington City Schools for 15 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George W. “Jukus” Curry Jr., who died March 13, 1987.
Surviving are her son, George E. “Eddie” Curry and wife, Candice, of Thomasville; brother, Boyd E. Shirley and wife, Loretta, of Lexington; two nieces; three great-nephews; and one great- niece.
