If you were listening on June 17, 2025, perhaps you heard about our beloved Rhonda Kaye Varner Smith, mother and grandmother announcing her arrival at her heavenly home, with her patented saying, “Hey everybody!” That’s how we knew her; always dressed to the nines, full of life, love, hugs, and cheers.
Rhonda was born on June 3, 1957 in Randolph Co. to Hal and Martha Varner. She was preceded in death by her father Reverend Hal Varner and grandson Jayden Gray. She is survived by her son Josh Gray, grandsons: Jayven and Jordan Gray, father of son Josh: Jeff Gray, her mother Martha Varner, brother Nathan Varner (Tippy), and sisters: Debbie Parsons (Tony) and Karon Wasson (Newton).
Rhonda made her home in Lexington, NC, raising her family with great love and dedication. She was an accomplished seamstress, caretaker for her mother, and had an innate gift for turning every event, party, and family gathering from Christmas to Halloween into a fabulous occasion. Rhonda’s ability to sew and craft were unsurpassed, yet she remained humble and modest and refused to take credit for her creations. Through modest means, Rhonda always managed to find a way to turn and provide well for her family, the neighborhood children, and her home. If anyone could turn a $20 dollar bill into a million dollar outfit, it was our Rhonda.
To honor Rhonda’s life, a visitation will be held from 3-4 pm Friday, June 27, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, with a memorial service to follow at 4 pm.
