Roger Dale Gregory passed away June 18, 2024 at Memory Care of the Triad. Born in Pulaski, Virginia to Brucie C. and William F. Gregory, he had lived in Davidson County since August 1955. He was preceded in death by his father on March 20, 1993 and his mother August 21, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, the former Judy Mae Ball whom he married April 24, 1966. Also surviving are daughters Melissa Mae Gregory of the home and Melody Lynn Clark of Thomasville, his sister Linda Gale Green, and her husband Max Green of Supply, North Carolina, and two grandsons, Camden Grayson Clark and Mckinley Cole of Thomasville.
Mr. Gregory was very proud of his heritage, his wife, his family, children, and grandchildren as well as all his kin folks and friends.
Mr. Gregory graduated from Pilot High School in 1961, having achieved perfect attendance his senior year, which he was very proud of. After high school, he studied radio and television broadcasting in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a past member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Mr. Gregory proudly served in the U.S. Army as a member of the 1st Calvary Division, Air Mobile as a Military Policeman with security clearance and attached to the security platoon, he served in Vietnam from 1965-1966. After his military service, Mr. Gregory worked for the Duracell Battery Company in Lexington, retiring in August of 2001, after 35 years where he was a former quality control inspector and supervisor.
Mr. Gregory was also a volunteer firefighter with the North Lexington Triangle Fire Department, serving in several positions, including Fire Chief for 17 years. He also served as President of the Fire Chiefs Council and Vice President of the Davidson County Fireman’s Association, and as a member of the Fire Commission. He was also a member of the North Carolina Fire chief’s Association. Mr. Gregory organized the Davidson County Public Safety Honor Guard where he served as Chairman for 20 years. He also served on the Board of Directors of the fire department as a director, vice president, and president serving the board in various positions for over 32 years.
In addition to his many friends and family, he loved animals and especially his dogs. His hobbies included wood working, computers, camping, reading, writing, research, and music. He was very proud of his “mini museum”, displaying various military memorabilia and his autobiography.
Memorials can be made to the Davidson County Humane Society, Davidson County Meals on Wheels, or the Davidson County Public Safety Honor Guard.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, June 21 at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Langley officiating.
Visitation will take place from 12:00 PM to 1:50 PM. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
